Poetry Portfolio Assignment

You will be completing a portfolio style assessment for this unit. Over the course of the unit, you will write your own, original poems. This is your chance to use your imagination and show your creativity through poetry and writing! At the end of the unit, we will share these in a “Cafe” setting on Thursday May 12th. I will accept completed portfolios until 2:50pm on May 16th 2016.

Requirements:

• Folder/ Visual Representation: Submit portfolio in a folder that is decorated in a way that illustrates your personality and interests. Must also include a good copy (written or typed) of your Biopoem on the reverse with a picture (drawn or photo) of yourself. In addition to the portfolio, you may also create additional visual representations of the poems you include in your folder.

• Good Copies: Poems in your portfolios MUST be typed or written and edited.

• Poems: You must include the following in your final portfolio submission:

  • Object Poem

  • 4 Haikus with 4 pictures

  • Poetry Slam (which could be shared at the Cafe in person or on video)

  • 2 new poems in a style of your choice

• Analysis: You must include 2 submissions of poetry analysis. These will be in paragraph form using your response questions as a guide. Detail and evidence will be required to support your ideas/opinions. You must include:

  • Your best response to one of the poems we analyzed in class (love, death, social commentary). You will have to convert your answers into paragraph form while maintaining clarity.

  • An analysis on a poem of your choice. Find a poem that engages or challenges you to ensure you have a detailed response.
